How can I neaten up a ball candle once I have removed it from the mould? I have used a craft knife to take away the protruding edges but still can't seem to find a way to get a smooth round finish?

Try using a metal mold, heat it up to about 110 degrees before pouring. The wax needs to be pillar wax that hardens to a shiny finish. Paraffin pillar or votive wax should work fine. You could also add vybar to make them more shiny.

I purchased two pilar candles in Athens, GA about ten years ago. The scents were so amazing that I saved the very ends of them. Have tried, but I cannot find the candle company. Can you help me? The labels say "Hand made by TAHOMA CANDLES" and (my favorite one) "Perfumed with SANDAL WOOD". Do you have any suggestions on finding this candle again?

You can send the candle to a candle manufacturer that has the ability to duplicate fragrances. Bell-A-Roma Candles has this ability. If you need more information please let us know.

I recently burned a Woodwick candle and it has caused $10,000 in smoke damage to my house. My insurance adjuster said I wasn't the first case he has seen. Just a warning to others burning these candles.

Great Blog! I have been searching for a place to bounce ideas off others in the candle business. I just recently started making candles for my store. I am one of the owners of Grace's Unique Gift Boutique. Check out our website: http://www.gracesmoon.com . The candles are called Esteem Home Fragrances. I am currently looking for new home fragrance products to manufacture. I am thinking about reed diffusers, but I can't find a container I really like. Any ideas please let me know. tmccarley@gracesmoon.com

When using a jar warmer (crockpot type) is it critical which size jar candle I'm using? I think it's made for a 22 oz. size but I'd like to use some smaller jars that I already have. Any recommendation would be appreciated.

  • At 2:48 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Most of the crock pot warmers are made for 16oz and 22oz apothecary jars.

For those looking to start with easy container candles, try www.specialtybottle.com. They have a variety of glass and tin containers at extremely competative prices. I particularly enjoy some of the gold top hexagon jars and the clear top tins.

Do you guys dropship your products?

  • At 6:50 AM, Anonymous Scentsy said…

I found this forum on the web and thought it might be a good opportunity to tell you guys about Scentsy. Scentsy is a new type of candle warming system. It doesn't burn any wax and it has essential oils build into the wax which disperses the scents for 60-80 per $2 block.

I provided a link to my Scenty site but don't take my word for it. I ended up becoming a consultant not so much for the opportunity but I was buying gifts for friends and thought 'might as well get the commission'.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I saw some cool posts here and thought I would throw out my Scentsy site for anyone who might be interested.

I recently purchased a candle holder that appears to be wooden--the tag states that it is made for
tealight candles but I am cautious about putting the candle in it and later trying to remove the unused wax (don't want to ruin the holder); the tealights come in indivual little plastic containers with instructions to remove all packing--does this mean the little plastic container or is it possible to burn a tealight inside the hard plastic container so that the wood container is protected?
